textbook

A textbook is a manual with instructions for a specific branch of study, and is written in accordance to educational standards.

Traditionally, textbooks are published in printed format, however, with the spread of internet access, more and more textbooks are now available in digital format. Numerous textbooks can typically be downloaded as e-books from educational institution websites and online libraries, or can be accessed for reading by registered students.

Students can also find used textbooks online allowing them to save money on hard copies of the books necessary for study. Some such sites also allow the students to sell or trade used textbooks among themselves.

Some online libraries demand an annual fee for access to their resources, while others will even grant readers free access to certain books.
