This is neither hyperbole nor an exaggeration: texture is everything in life. It makes life interesting. It makes things different from one another. It is truly the spice of life.

Contrary to what you may think, anything and everything has "texture." A conversation has texture. Is it abrasive? Is it easy? Is it hard? A painting can have texture. Did the artist use broad strokes or small, short strokes to capture an effect? A situation can have texture. Do you feel uncomfortable in a situation? Do you feel at ease? Are you anxious? Are you nervous? This is all part of the "texture" of something.

Most people think of texture as something we can sense with our five senses. And though it is true that most texture is sensed via our sense of touch, texture can also be seen and tasted. It can also be "sensed" in a way that requires none of our five senses.

Textures are fascinating things. Take this challenge: go through an entire day and try to sense the texture of everything. Every situation, every person, every conversation, every idea. Everything. You will find that life is absolutely overflowing with texture.
