thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a uniquely American tradition. A harvest festival, it is also believed that originally it was a day to thank the “native Indian” population who helped the Pilgrims in America with farming, fishing and hunting. Even though there is some dispute, the first Thanksgiving is believed to have taken place in Plymouth Colony, in present-day Massachusetts, in 1621.
It is now a day to celebrate with family and friends over Turkey dinner and Football. Every year millions of turkeys are cooked on this day and one of the birds is pardoned by the president in the white house.
The day after Thanksgiving is also the official start of Christmas Shopping season and is known as Black Friday. On this day retailers are meant to go into the "black" with big sales and discounted prices. So now it has become another holiday tradition to line up in front of electronic and other stores after the Turkey dinner to get the best discounts and deals.
