Gil Scott is absolutely one of my favorite artists of all time.  He’s pretty high up there.  Dude is deep as the abyss and cool as the water in those depths.  He’s a man for the people.  He’s progressive and old school.   This is a documentary about Gil-Scott Heron.  It’s inspiring and educational.

Gil Scott-Heron is thought to be one of the progenitors of hip-hop, approaching his early efforts with a spoken word ‘rap’ as backed by an insistent groove, with some counterbalancing jazz flute acting as a foil to his strident vocal delivery.

I just saw the DVD copy of the film The Hunting Party starring Richard Gere and Terrence Howard. It was a satisfactory film, with all the trappings of a lighthearted satire on the hypocrisy of the industrialized countries and the international media. But sometimes the funny side and the serious side of the film fail to gel together.
