    Racing Bikes in Wine Country

    http://inanafricanminute.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ racing-bikes-in-wine-country.ht…

via Boston.com The Big Picture The morning had all the makings of a disaster. It was cold and hazy. I got two flats before even leaving the starting area, I got stung by a bee under my jersey, and I accidentally did the first loop an extra time, adding an extra 11 miles to a 100 bike race.

    More woodstove shopping

    http://wildsidehome.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ more-woodstove-shopping.html

I want to find out more about this one -- for both emissions and size... The old-fashioned style would go well for this age of house and it looks like it is intended for a small space, but need to see how well it does emissions-wise and just exactly what needed space dimensions are.

Permaculture 101: Designing A Life Beyond Sustainability

    http://www.econsciousmarket.com/ eco-times/ permaculture-101/

According to the Hirsch Report issued by the US Department of Energy, global oil production peaked in 2005 with the last major discoveries of light crude oil occurring in the 1960s. Regardless, global consumption rates continue to climb 1.5% each year and the UN estimates the world population will hit 9.1 Billion in the next 40 years.

    http://www.andydickinson.net/ 2008/ 08/ 14/ how-the-regional-papers-use-video-th…

Yesterday I looked at how the Express&Star and the Liverpool Echo use video as part of a series of posts looking at the way regional newspapers use video on their website. In this post I’m going to be looking at the Manchester Evening News.

    Kansas in August

    http://littlebloginthebigwoods.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ kansas-in-august.html

I'm likely to be a little longer between posts here for a while.  We're not in Kansas, and we don't grow corn- but we are moving into the critical harvest time for the crops we do grow.  Oldest son Beelar has temporarily dropped his PhD work to come home for the next 2 months and help out.  It's that urgent.

Artist of the Week: Mathew Borrett

    http://www.mondomagazine.net/ ?p=1745

By Rachel Kahn I met Mathew Borrett at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition last month, sitting in a booth surrounded by drawings one could almost literally lose oneself in. Fittingly, Mathew Borrett was awarded Best of Category for Drawing, and had run out of business cards before I got to his booth.

Deal of the Day: GRID for $40

    http://www.ps3fanboy.com/ 2008/ 08/ 11/ deal-of-the-day-grid-for-40/

Filed under: Deals and Bargains The critically-acclaimed racing game GRID is currently on sale for $39.99 for today only. With a respectable score of 88 over at Metacritic, the game is a must-have if you are a driving-sim fan. With the full version of Gran Turismo 5 supposedly not due till 2010, this game should help tide you over for the time being.

    The Tragedy Of The Anti-Commons

    http://peakenergy.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ tragedy-of-anti-commons.html

The New Yorker has an interesting look at the opposite of the "tragedy of the commons" problem - what can happen when there is too much private ownership - something we frequently see happen in the field of intellectual property, which really should have a very short half life.
