Thinspiration is a word developed by pro-anorexia ("pro-ana") bloggers to describe images and stories that inspire them to remain dangerously thin. On pro-ana websites young women discuss how little they eat, how many days they can go without food, and how much they look to others for community and thinspiration.
Anorexia is an eating disorder in which the individual always sees herself as fat, no matter how thin she becomes. Several television shows, such as High School Confidential have addressed this topic.
Celebrity icons of the thinspiration movement are many, and include Nicole Ritchie, Victoria Beckham, and Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen.
