timber

Tag details

Timber is a term used to describe young trees and/or their wood, as well as large squared or treated pieces of wood that are ready for use in structures or framing.

In the United Kingdom and Australia, sawed wood boards are also called 'timber'; however, such dimensional wood boards made from timber are called 'lumber' in the United States and Canada.

Timber
can be treated with preservatives for protection against mold, fungus, and insects. It is most often used for 'timber framing', a type of construction requiring heavy materials to make the frame. This is as opposed to modern 'stick framing,' which uses dimensional sawn boards, or lumber.

Bloggers interested in the topic of timber are discussing whether or not timber is still in use as structural members, and how people working with timber can become actors of the wood and forestry chain at sites like NetBois.com.
