toxin
Toxins may be described as small molecules that have the ability to create disease, either immediately on contact with, or when absorbed by the body tissues.
Toxins may come from the environment, from water, from the air or from food or drink.
It is inevitable to encounter toxins throughout life and the body has the natural ability to remove toxins by a process called detoxification. When the body becomes inundated with toxins it may not be able to keep up and disease can occur if assisted detox doesn't take place.
Assisted detox, even by way of working through a quick 3 day detox diet, can involve adding certain foods or supplements into the diet to aid in detox, but often removing certain foods from the diet can be enough to give the body the "break" it needs to do what it does naturally.
You'll find bloggers talking about toxins and detox at sites like Raw Food Detox and unm.edu.
