trail running

Trail running can be a lot of fun. Nobody gets shot out of a cannon or anything, but it can still be a lot of fun in its own right.

Trail running is just a different version of running. It's not unlike road running or track running, except you do it on trails instead (usually hiking trails). These trails can traverse varying types of terrain; hills, mountains, deserts, forests, narrow passages, etc. are all fair game when it comes to trail running. Also it is not uncommon for trail runners to ascend and descend thousands of feet in one run.

As of 2009, there were over 7 million regular trail runners in the United States and over 50 million worldwide. A trail run can be something as simple as a 10-minute run up the canyon for exercise every day to backpacking trips that last a week or 10 days.
