  Well, I had the same 646 failures on my laptop for the Office 2003 patches. Just muttered the same curse and downloaded and installed manually. Not much point in reporting known issues, is there?

  ok, i have no idea how it was fixed. i tried to uninstall all of those components again, did some manual and automatic file and registry cleaning, and windows update offered me to install everything again, and it updated fine
