Tuning (which is also sometimes referred to as fine tuning), describes a methodology used to make a good thing even better. Tuning involves both searching for the perfect solution, or arriving there simply through making improvements or accessorizing.

In broadcasting, we find the best programs by tuning into the right television network or radio station (often using a device called a "tuner"). In the world of corporate sales, a finely tuned presentation or pitch can mean everything when it comes to closing a potential client.

In music, the perfect chord is achieved by tuning the strings of a guitar or the keys of a piano. Conversely, tuning can be taken to extremes, such as the way certain singers use auto-tune to achieve perfect pitch or correct a botched note.

When it comes to your automobile, tuning plays a particularly crucial role in maintaining a dependable ride. While tuning your car can mean tricking it out with shiny rims or other bells and whistles, it most often refers to keeping the oil clean and changing the plugs and points in order to maintain fuel efficiency and prolong the life of an engine. The catch phrase of a "finely tuned machine" is equally applied to virtually anything where technology is concerned.
