    On patching and security issues

Jeff, I think your concerns are pretty well real. The problem here though is not that Debian users should not be suggested not to file bugs upstream, the problem is that Debian should not go out of their way to patch stuff around.

Using the Huawei E169G usb mobile internet modem on the EEE

    http://www.greenhughes.com/ content/ using-huawei-e169g-usb-mobile-internet-mode…

Yesterday I treated myself to a new mobile internet "dongle" to go with my Asus EEE PC. I decided to go for the Huawei E169G usb modem as it matches my black EEE, however there is a small problem with getting this device to work straight away.

MEI Driver and Kernel > 2.6.23

    http://www.openamt.org/ blog/ 2008/ 04/ 21/ mei-driver-and-kernel-2623/

If you are trying to compile the released MEI driver (HECI) driver on new kernels, most likely compilation will fail due to incompatibility in the Makefile. For the latest release of the driver that work on most recent kernels and that come with support for udev and additional bug fixes try the development version in the subversion repository.

Although I’ve got persistent device naming etc. configured, I’m still hoping to fully grasp & master the needed configfiles for udev, hal etc. So I found a few links (lots of overlap but hey): HAL and device management A Linux Planet tutorial : Adding additional hard drives in Linux An ok article

How to automatically run a script after inserting a USB device on Ubuntu?

    http://www.gradstein.info/ hardware/ how-to-automatically-run-a-script-after-ins…

Here’s the setup: you have a computer which has a SD port (small memory cards, mostly used in cameras, phones, etc.). You want to get all of your photos from that card automatically as soon as you insert your card (may be a USB key as well), that is, run a script which will search for all of your photos, and copy them to a local directory.
