The UK or United Kingdom of Great Britain is a sovereign state, an island nation northwest of mainland Europe with 60 million people consisting of the countries England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The UK was the home of the British empire, the foremost world power of the 19th century. It's power peaked in the early 20th century and declined thereafter, hastened by World War II. Though the British empire is no longer sustainable, the UK still maintains significant global influence for the size of it's population, both because of it's permanent seat on the U.N. security council and as a result of the success of London as a global financial and cultural center.

The UK has an active social and blogging scene commenting on all aspects of UK society including the economic, political and social.

Pages tagged with UK will contain information relevant to, or about the United Kingdom.
