The United States of America (also known as the U.S, USA, America or The States) is a country situated in the central part of the North American continent. It lies between the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans and is bordered by Mexico to the South and by Canada to the North.

Politically, The United States are a federal presidential constitutional republic, whose incumbent president is Barack Obama. The country is comprised of 50 federal states, which share sovereignty with the federal government of the republic. This implies that Americans are both citizens of the states they live in and of the republic.

With a mixed capitalist economy fueled by access to plentiful natural resources and high quality infrastructure, America ranks as the world's number one producer in several industrial sectors, such as liquid natural gas, electrical and nuclear energy, sulfur and phosphates. It is also the third largest producer of oil in the world.
