user

A user in computing is a person who uses a service, software or computer. The term is most often associated with user accounts which identify a user. User accounts usually consist of a username and password to log into the system for identification and personalization purposes.

Users can on the other hand be guests or anonymous as well meaning that they do not have to log in to use the service. This however prevents most of the personalization features and privileges that standard user accounts offer.

Examples of user based systems are the Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux operating systems, online services such as Facebook, YouTube or Gmail and server or ftp accounts that webmasters use to administrate their websites.
