Valentine, or St. Valentine is the name of one of several "martyred saints of ancient Rome", or more notably, the saint whom Valentine's Day was named after.

Valentine's Day, which is on February 14th each year, is generally the day of "romance" for couples. Giving someone a "valentine" in the form of a card may also show a sign of friendship amongst childhood friends, more than it does romance. The recipient of the card becomes the givers "valentine" if they respond positively to the question "Will you be my Valentine?".

Typically, adults express their love for their chosen valentine or in some cases, valentines, with romantic offerings such as valentine jewelry, a heart shaped box of chocolates, bouquet of flowers, greeting cards and even engagement rings with a request for a hand in marriage.
