value

The term value can mean numerous things, but the general idea of this concept for most people is the worth or material cost of an item. A piece of jewelry which cost $2,000 when purchased but can now be sold for $4,000 will have doubled the value of the item.

As inflation rises around the globe the worth of many items will also go up based on this economic factor. Many third world countries pay a much larger percentage of income for food, because of the higher value due to the resource scarcity in these areas.

The value of something can increase or decrease based on many different factors and circumstances. The weather patterns, crop yields, market demand, the ability to supply the market, and many other factors can affect the perceived worth of an item. Recent economic events have caused the value of stocks and other investments to decrease significantly, and the same is true in the housing market as well.
