Both men and women, as they grow older, can be affected with varicose veins often caused by circulatory problems. These enlarged veins can be flesh colored, dark purple or blue and often look like twisted or bulging cords. They are swollen and raised above the surface of the skin on the calves or inside of the leg. Their capillaries form a network of smaller spider veins like spider webs with red or blue short jagged lines close to the surface of the skin on the legs or face.
