White Bean “Crab Cakes” with Savory Peach and Corn Salad
http://www.glutenfreecookingschool.com/ archives/ white-bean-crab-cakes-corn-pea…Sometimes I really want a food that is traditionally made with meat…like crab cakes or sausage balls. Since the meat part of those recipes is just not going to happen (for health reasons), I’ve had to get creative with beans. And surprisingly enough, if you season the beans correctly you can make something that tastes very, very much like the real thing.

Wheat Berry Payasam ~ A Vegan Indian Dessert!
http://cooking4allseasons.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ wheat-berry-payasam-vegan-indi…I went and got this bag of whole wheat berries and you can see that's the reason for all wheat related dishes coming up. I basically bought it to make the Wheat Halwa. I used just about a cup and there were no quarter kg bags available. And its not enough to grind into flour. Well we have come up with the sprouts.

A Weekend Replete with Vegan Food
http://www.livingwithoutmeat.com/ a-weekend-replete-with-vegan-food/It was a weekend for good vegan, homemade food! Friday evening, a friend cooked dinner for me. She sauted large, sliced portabella mushrooms in the packet of portabella sauce that came with them (balsamic is a good option if they don’t come with sauce).

Kalamata-Red Pepper Tapenade
http://blog.vegcooking.com/ 2008/ 08/ kalamatared_pepper_tapenade.phpTapenades are typically based around three main ingredients: olives, capers, and olive oil. You would think these ingredients would be the start of an Italian dish, right? Surprisingly, tapenades are actually of French origin. Tapenade is a paste or chunky spread made by mixing or pounding the above ingredients.

Drinking the Kool-Aid
http://www.popehat.com/ 2008/ 08/ 04/ drinking-the-kool-aid/I’ve discussed my friend Caren’s excellent blog Fennel Files (which is linked in the Nav Bar) before. Her tagline expresses the purpose perfectly: “thoughts on raising vegan kids in a fast food world.” I can’t recommend it enough, not just for the tasty recipes that most entries contain, but also for the thoughtful and poignant writing wrapped around those recipes.

http://nataliecakes.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 08/ 02/ strawberry-banana-muffins/strawberry banana muffin Originally uploaded by Bake & Destroy! I’d planned on posting this recipe sooner than now (how soon is now?) but after all the lovin’ I got from Cakespy’s loyal readers my head swelled up so big I couldn’t get out of bed for a week.

Raw Vegan Recipe: Coconut Ice Cream
http://www.reallyrawfood.com/ 2008/ 07/ 31/ raw-vegan-recipe-coconut-ice-cream/Grasseater Woman posted a recipe for coconut ice cream in Sumptuous Feasts. I had all the ingredients so I was the guinea pig for the forum. I didn’t go exactly by the recipe so I’m taking the liberty of calling this one my own.

Key Lime 'Cheesecake'
http://blog.vegcooking.com/ 2008/ 07/ key_lime_cheesecake.phpThe recipe below is for a tart and sweet vegan cheesecake that is extremely easy to make and has very few ingredients. Yes, the title says "key lime," but I'll go ahead and fess up that I cheated and used normal limes. You can too.

Sunday Dinner with a Friend
http://www.livingwithoutmeat.com/ sunday-dinner-with-a-friend/This weekend, I had a friend staying with me. As we were lounging around Sunday, pouting over the thunder storm’s thwarting of our plan to go to the pool, she suggested making a fancy dinner for ourselves.

Favorite Websites - VegFamily eMagazine
http://thevegandiet.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 07/ favorite-websites-vegfamily-emagazin…One of my favorite e-magazines is the VegFamily Magazine. Amazingly it is still free. Due to very little info available for parents in 1999, Erin Pavlina started a forum to discuss vegan parenting. Over time it developed into a very valuable monthly e-magazine.
