What is a vegetable? Do vegetarians eat animal crackers? Are the VeggieTales getting way too preachy? Are you going to grow so old that you become a vegetable? Were you ever told that you couldn't leave the dinner table until you had eaten all of your vegetables?

A vegetable is a highly ambiguous thing. For example, is a mushroom a vegetable? Some say it is; others say a mushroom is not a vegetable and that mushrooms belong in a category all their own. Is a tomato a vegetable? Or is it a fruit? Arguments can be made on both sides. See, most vegetables are a leaf, stem, or root of a plant. Not the flowering fruit or seed of a plant (that's a fruit). So is a tomato a fruit or a vegetable? You decide.

Some people love vegetables so much that is all they eat! They look up a vegetarian meal plan on the internet and create a different dish every night! But most people simply use vegetables to complement a meal (like in a salad) or for a between meal snack.
