Well at least for the time being oil prices seem to have peaked. The recent run up in oil prices always struck me as being a bubble, at least in part. Sure there was increased demand from countries like India and China that added to the upward movement in prices, and the instability in the Persian Gulf doesn’t help, but we still have these things and now the price is down 23%.

The prices increases for food and oil have pushed inflation to its highest levels since 1991. The cost of living in the US surged at twice the rate expected last month to the fastest annual level in 17 and a half years, official data showed today, due to spiralling food and oil prices.

There have been lots more busy days to report on. Where did I last leave off? Goodness, I haven’t reported on the whole week! Monday was Bastille day and I went with a bunch of people to the beach to watch the fireworks.  They were really great fireworks, I just wish I had known I’d be watching

DAMN YANKEES AT ENCORES! The Encores! production of Damn Yankees won me over on Wednesday night, though I can understand the mixed reviews that have been coming in. The company's take on the baseball-fan-meets-Faust fantasy could certainly use some more zing (surprising, considering that the director is John Rando) and, perhaps, a little less fealty regarding Bob Fosse's original choreography.

My second Adler and Ross show this Year is Damn Yankees. Since George Abbott produced and directed both the stage versions and screen versions, I have to assume that the film is fairly true to the original, although I've never seen it on stage. Ray Walston and Gwen Verdon reprise their stage roles for the film.
