    SugarCRM deployment efforts

    http://mamchenkov.net/ wordpress/ 2008/ 08/ 19/ sugarcrm-deployment-efforts/

Since we started working on SugarCRM in the office, one of the hardest tasks that we had was solving the deployment issue.  On one hand, SugarCRM comes with some really nice GUI tools, such Studio and Module Builder.  On the other hand, the system is large and complex and should be developed and tested in a separate, non-production environment.

    Beyond the commiter

    http://www.coffee.geek.nz/ content/ 080815/ beyond-commiter

Drupal is an example of a project with one commiter per branch -- there's is only one person who will be putting code into the DRUPAL-5 branch in CVS. Like wise for all other stable branches. CVS only has the concept of commiter. All commits on that branch appear to be authored by that one person.

Setting up Subversion Version control in Ubuntu

    http://maketecheasier.com/ setting-up-subversion-version-control-in-ubuntu/ 2008…

When developing a project, you may want to keep a version control of all your files so that you can easily revert to an earlier page (or the previous revision) to fix any bugs or in the event that someone accidentally deleted your files. In Ubuntu, the easiest way to do version control is to set up a Subversion (SVN) server.

Version Control Status in the Command Line Prompt

    http://blog.interlinked.org/ tutorials/ zsh_mercurial_notifier.html

I sometimes forget to push or pull changes to or from a remote repository. To remedy the problem I wrote myself a little script to show me the status on the prompt. The script is written for zsh and Mercurial, but can be easily adapted to other version control systems (I guess).

    Four Rules for Simple Codelines

    http://bradapp.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 06/ four-rules-for-simple-codeline.html

Some of you may be aware of Kent Beck's Four Rules of Simple Code that state simple code: Correctly runs (and passes) all the testsContains no duplication (OnceAndOnlyOnce and The DRY Principle) Clearly expresses all the ideas/intentions we needed to express (reveals all intent and intends all it

Keeping your LaTeX Preamble in a Git Submodule

    http://markelikalderon.com/ blog/ 2008/ 07/ 31/ keeping-your-latex-preamble-in-a…

One of the much vaunted conceptual advantages of structural markup is the separation of form and content. In LaTeX, the preamble determines the the form of the document, how it is to be typeset, while the main body determines the content of the document and should contain only structural markup, markup that specifies the logical structure of the content.

    Emacs version control

    http://argandgahandapandpa.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 07/ 30/ emacs-version-control/

I discovered how emacs version control worked today… and was duelly impressed. (Again having thought that it didn’t work at all well before - guess this means I should learn to read manuals). As an aside, one of the reasons I hadn’t found this out earlier was because I was under the false impression

Revision control for LaTeX: in search of an answer

    http://www.academicproductivity.com/ 2008/ revision-control-for-latex-in-search-…

As an ultimate LaTeX addicted, I hate to admit that there is nothing in the TeX universe comparable to the amazingly simple and intuitive revision tracking system that Microsoft implemented in Word. OpenOffice apparently has an equally powerful version control system built in its Writer.

Connecting HTML Help to Visual Basic Programs

    http://www.programminglearn.com/ 182/ connecting-html-help-to-visual-basic-progr…

Visual Basic (versions 6 and later) provides directly for calling window level HTML Help topics using the F1 key, or providing What’s This? Help for each control, including activation from the F1 key. The choice between What’s This? Help and form level F1 help can be made on a form by form basis.
