With the world rushing head-first toward anything new, it's an interesting study to consider the unique position of vintage cars. They are still loved, and if kept in good condition, still very valuable.
These days, general technology gets a collective shun once outmoded (consider corded phones and typewriters). Cars, however, still seem to attract admiration on both ends of the old/new scale. In fact, much like the design and fashion worlds, the oldtimer is coming into the future with features such as a Houndstooth interior (like the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Concept) and double racing stripes (like the Dodge Viper SRT-10). Evidently cars, despite being very technical, still abide by the more intangible standards of art and design.
The fact remains that vintage cars in good repair can still perform the main function of new cars — to get us from one place to the next. Typewriters, on the other hand, cannot allow us to misspell or delete easily, so their functionality is no longer useful for most. Perhaps if typewriters had racing stripes...
