I love looking at the analytics for my site. I love seeing what articles are most popular, what people land on the most, where they come from and where they leave. A few months ago I learned about Woopra - a free tracking/analytics program that has a beautiful gui and some pretty freakin’ cool features.

For the last couple of weeks my log files showed some funny referrals from what turned out to be a Microsoft IP address. Each time a single search term would lead to my site, apparently from the Microsoft search.live.com site. Search terms included: money, crete, about, greece, uncategorized, harddisk, stress etc… My site doesn’t even rank for some of those terms.

I like to visualize visitors on my websites, and I was looking for a realtime google analytics alternative some months ago. Since I also like to do custom calculations or visualizations on some sites, an API for my stats would be quite helpful.

We’ve been using the popular and free Google Analytics hit statistics/analytics package for some time now, but we wanted something more. Google Analytics doesn’t allow you to track an individual visitor’s progress through the site. Determining when your users exit and how is important and not having this feature was frustrating.
