After the success of Disneyland, Walt Disney Productions , under the lead of founder Walt Disney, began looking for a space for a second theme park.  They found just the place outside the city of Orlando, Florida and opened Walt Disney World Resort in 1971.  At over 27,000 acres, it is now one of the largest resort complexes in the world.  The resort area has a few nicknames: Walt Disney World, Disney World, and WDW. 

The resort is comprised of four theme parks: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios; and two water parks: Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.  There are two admission-free entertainment districts as well: Downtown Disney and The Boardwalk.  Lesser-known attractions include Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex, which hosts professional and amateur sporting events year round; Walt Disney World Speedway, which has a program that allows guest to ride in or drive a real race car; and Disney’s Wedding Pavilion, which can host up to six ceremonies per day.

Aside from the attractions, Walt Disney World Resort boasts five golf courses, two miniature golf complexes, and 32 resorts and hotels, many with spa services.
