Wednesday Rojak #38
http://www.southeastasianarchaeology.com/ 2008/ 08/ 20/ wednesday-rojak-38/We’ve got a good mix of stories from the web this week, from the old name of Thailand (Thailand), Cambodia (ceramics and temples) and Malaysia (dying traditions). photo credit: joejiang.sg Ever thought of Siam as the old name of Thailand? Andy shows us that the name ‘Thailand’ goes back much further than we already thought.

A favorite photo
http://hereticdhammasangha.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 08/ 15/ a-favorite-photo/I met this little gal outside of Angkor Wat in July. She was selling bottles of water and cans of beer and coke. I stood and talked to her and was snapping photos of everything around me. Later. When I got to my hotel room and downloaded the photos. I saw this one. She is so beautiful. Her face is full of wonder and life. She is Cambodia.

Tropic Thunder: Hollywood Will Gently Nibble Itself
http://blog.spout.com/ 2008/ 08/ 14/ tropic-thunder-hollywood-will-gently-nibble…I wish I had smuggled the Polaroid snapshot of Nolte from my former employer, a men’s homeless shelter. Nolte wasn’t his real name, but I’ll be damned if the scruffy, gin-blossomed, gravel-voiced Vietnam veteran wasn’t a ringer for Nick Nolte playing a Nam burnout.

Photo post: Shopping and lunch in at Friendly restaurant
http://plaktoz.com/ ?p=846It’s not that the staff is really friendly but it’s just the name of the restaurant. I really don’t want to use that phrase again. So uncreative. But I have to use it. Picture speaks a thousand words!

No Focus
http://watdawat.com/ 2008/ 08/ 08/ no-focus/Since I can’t focus long enough to write a full post, I’m going to share with you what swirled in my head during my 1 hour drive to work this morning. 1. I’m getting old. One of my students e-mailed me to let me know that she just passed her bar exam! I’m not really surprised that she passed the exam.
