water storage
Water storage and food storage go hand in hand as two of the most important elements of emergency preparedness. Water storage trumps food storage because of the body’s need for water, generally being able to go without it for a maximum of three days. On the other hand, humans can generally survive for up to three weeks with no food.
Experts recommend that two weeks worth of water—one gallon per person per day—be stored in an FDA approved food safe container (or containers). Said water would be used in an emergency for such things as hygiene, cooking, and drinking.
Water for storage should come from culinary sources and stores for long periods of time without the need for treatment. If there is ever any doubt about the safety of the water for human consumption, water purification tablets may be added to disinfect. Even more effective is boiling the water to kill disease-causing microorganisms.
Bloggers speaking about water storage sometimes discuss water filters for easy outdoor use as well as utilizing 55 gallon drums for bulk storage.
