A wealthy affiliate program is associated with internet advertising where individuals place links to other businesses' products on the internet. The idea is that someone can make money in a referral role by sending traffic to a business' website. Startup costs are minimal, and you could actually consider startup costs to be zero if you already have a computer and internet access. That's essentially all you need to get started.

There are differences between a wealthy affiliate program and being a traditional retailer or even selling drop-shipped products that you never actually inventory. A wealthy affiliate does not have to build and manage a sales website. Instead they link to them. A wealthy affiliate also is not limited to selling only those product lines where they have special knowledge or understanding. Instead, linking opportunities are almost limitless, and someone could be associated with selling an endless variety of products and services.
