Web development is a catch-all term for the technical aspects of producing websites, commonly separated from the artistic discipline of web design and concentrating on dynamic pages that adapt their content according to user input.

Web development covers everything from writing HTML markup and javascript code to server-side scripts in languages like Java, PHP, Ruby and Perl. Blog articles on this subject can also cover other aspects of the web development platform, such as web-servers, databases and networking.

The cost of producing dynamic, interactive web sites is falling sharply, placing the technologies in the hands of hobbyists and small businesses. Coupled with a global trend towards de-centralizing data and software-as-a-service, web development is a growing topic.
