webmail
Webmail is simply a way for a user to access their web-based email from any capable browser connected to the Internet. Webmail was originally developed and released to the public via demonstration in 1995 by a Sardinian programmer named Luca Manunza.
Since that time, many other companies have developed their own version of webmail, including Microsoft's Hotmail, a service they actually acquired and released to the public via their branding in 1997, Yahoo! Mail, which offers unlimited storage for its users, and Gmail, Google's entry into the market in 2004, which has developed a series of Javascript tools forcing other older webmail to update their products.
One of the disadvantages of webmail is the ability for people to hack into accounts and access them remotely. One highly publicized hacking was detailed in 2008 when Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin had her Yahoo! Mail accessed, showing her doing official state business from her personal email account.
