The formal (or informal) request to attend the wedding; is the wedding invitation. Historically weddings were announced with a town crier, but as literacy became a mark of nobility; hand written invitations began. The Coat of Arms or Family Crest was pressed into wax to seal the invitation. There is a raft of etiquette standards related to how to properly address  wedding invitations and when to send them. The rule of thumb is six weeks before the wedding.

Blogs on wedding invitations are often from printing producers of the invitations and may contain newest trends, most popular design samples and phrasing suggestions for the wording of the invitation. The Calligraphy Lady’s blog shows calligraphy styles and provides some general information about her product line.
