Effective exercise programs help to increase weight loss when following a lower calorie diet plan.There are many different diet plans to choose from.  Some such as Atkins or South Beach have you lower carbohydrate intake, others like The Zone diet offer a balanced fat-carbohydrate-protein ratio, and the US government promotes low-fat plans for weight loss.

Statistically most people who lose weight on diets gain that weight back over a period of time. The key to long term successful weight loss has several steps such as accountability to others (reporting daily food choices and following exercise plans), life style changes that establish new habits (drinking more water and lowering your daily caloric intake while increasing your physical activity), and accepting that weight loss is a process and not an over night success. Incorporating all of these things into your daily life will give you long-term weight loss.
