weiland
Scott Weiland is probably best known as the frontman for the on-again/off-again 1990s alternative rock band Stone Temple Pilots. He has also battled substance abuse issues that have led to a string of drug-related arrests, court appointments, and incarceration.
San Diego-based Stone Temple Pilots released their debut album Core in 1992. The album sold millions of copies and launched the band to superstar status along with other emerging rock bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden. Multi-platinum albums Purple (1994) and Tiny Music... From the Vatican Gift Shop followed, but the band's fortunes took a beating as Weiland's heroin addiction led to erratic behavior and a litany of legal issues. STP went on hiatus and Weiland made his debut solo record, 12 Bar Blues, with famed producer Daniel Lanois. The album didn't do well commercially but received some positive reviews. STP reformed and recorded No. 4 in 1999 and Shangri-La Dee Da in 2001.
Weiland and STP went their separate ways, and he teamed with former Guns N' Roses members Slash, Duff, and Matt Sorum (as well as Dave Kushner) to form Velvet Revolver. VR made two records, Contraband and Libertad. Weiland left Velvet Revolver in 2008 and released his second solo album Happy in Galoshes. The album was released in two different versions. Reviews for the album were mixed, with BC Magazine and AMG giving the record favorable reviews while Entertainment Weekly and The Phoenix were less enthused.
