Redefining Education for the 21st Century?

    http://wadatripp.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 08/ 19/ redefining-education-for-the-21st-…

I am about 60 days into my new role here at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. With each additional day I become more and more aware of just what an incredible institution I have been privileged to join. The vision of the administration, the caliber of the faculty and the sharpness of the students are truly something that must be experienced to be understood.

Thankfully, after seeing both Sean and Gavin post this video, I finally cleared out the time to watch Michael Wesch's speech at the library of congress entitled An Anthropological Introduction to YouTube. You might remember him as the genius behind Web 2.0...the machine is us/ing us.

An Anthropological Introduction to YouTube This has been going around for some time, and I never found an hour with which to watch it. Today I finally did, and I’m glad for that. It’s well done, and brings new weight to Robin’s question: “How is YouTube not the greatest art project ever?”

    An anthropological introduction to YouTube

This is a presentation given by Mike Wesch, Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Kansas State University, at the Library of Congress on June 23, 2008. He decided to forgo the standard PowerPoint presentation and instead worked with his students to prepare over 40 minutes of video for the 55-minute presentation.

Welcome to the 30th edition of Medicine 2.0, the blog carnival devoted to articles that analyze the current and potential impact of web 2.0 technologies on medicine and healthcare. "Medicine 2.0" 101 The first question is, of course, "What exactly is Medicine 2.0?". The second, "Who cares?".

Michael Wesch’s Presentation to Library of Congress

    http://weblogg-ed.com/ 2008/ michael-weschs-presentation-to-library-of-congress/…

So this is definitely worth an hour of your time if you haven’t already invested it. (I seem to be about four days late to stuff any more…go figure.) Michael Wesch of Kansas State and the “Machine is Us” fame gave an overview of the cultural significance of You Tube to the LOC, and suffice to say, it’s incredibly interesting stuff.

Linking in Ways We’ve Never Linked Before You Tube is the equivalent of 400 “always on” TV channels. We are producers, directors, and the audience, but it’s more than that. We’re passing on culture, values, and meaning. Watch as social anthropologist Dr.
