Transfer Rumors (20 August 08): Robinho’s Chelsea move not happening, Arsenal move for Silvestre, West Brom splash club-record cash on Valero, and more

    http://soccerlens.com/ transfer-rumors-200808/ 10140/

It’s a pretty short day in transfer tidbits, since most of the focus today is on the international action going on everywhere, but there is still a decent amount of news to report on, so let’s hop to it, shall we?

    Arsenal 1-0 WBA

Ok, so that wasn’t all that pretty. I’ll also admit I didn’t get the chance to watch the opening match this past Saturday, but a 1-0 result is nothing to boast about. Which is a sign that Arsene will pick up on (please sign a midfielder).

A Friend’s Birthday Bash @ Sanctuary, The Curve

Watching Arsenal beat WBA wasn’t as gratifying as I anticipated it to be. The Gunners got off to a flying start with Samir Nasri’s goal in the 4th minute. I really like Samir Nasri and I believe that he will prove to be a better buy than Hleb. It was awful to see Arsenal play without hardly threatening the opposition’s goalkeeper.

Is it time to panic yet?

    http://soccerlens.com/ is-it-time-to-panic-yet/ 10003/

The first weekend of the 08/09 season saw Tottenham lose away to Middlesbrough, Manchester United held to a draw at home to Newcastle, Portsmouth destroyed in a game that will be as remembered for Chelsea’s tactical superiority as the lack of effort from Pompey players and Everton lose at home to a Blackburn side that has lost 2 of its best players over the summer (see all results here).

    Premier League 2008/09 Predictions

    http://theoddsandsods.com/ 2008/ 08/ 15/ premier-league-200809-predictions/

    1. Arsenal: They have enough talent, but need the “ifs” to come through. 2. Man Utd: Continuity is great, but too much saps vigor.  Quiroz effect? 3. Chelsea: Can Scolari tactically handle his unwieldy collection of parts. 4. Liverpool: Is Robbie Keane alone enough to push them forward? 5.

    Premier League 2008/9 Picks - Week 1

    http://www.theoffside.com/ leagues/ england/ english-premiership/ premier-league…

It’s a bit of a Premier League predict-o-rama on The Offside today. I’ve already taken a shot at what the final 2008/9 Premiership table will look like (or more likely won’t) and Chris has weighed up the likely winners and losers in the sack race (if the sack race actually has winners.) But now it’s
