WiMAX Will Be Successful, as a Fringe Technology

    http://www.circleid.com/ posts/ 88201_wimax_successful_as_fringe_technology/

A recent Infonetics press release says "WiMAX has gained such momentum across so many regions that it is no longer sensible to suggest that WiMAX growth will be flattened by the emergence of LTE [Long Term Evolution] in the next few years." Probably true, but it's also clear WiMAX will never reach the scale of either mainstream wireless family, i.e., WiFi or GSM/3GSM.

USA Today, the smart paper that plays dumb, has a remarkably clear summary of FCC chairman Kevin Martin's plan for free broadband access — and its opposition by T-Mobile, the company that bought the wireless spectrum next door to the frequencies Martin wants to use.

    http://blog.tmcnet.com/ blog/ rich-tehrani/ apple/ communications-speech-markets…

Two days -- two shows, two cities and two trains which left at dawn. Wow... What a rush. What I picked up from the Channel Partners (Boston) and SpeechTek (New York) shows is  the communications market and the call center market are doing well, based on what companies in the space tell me.

Many attendees have told me they are getting great deals on airfare to ITEXPO September 16-18, 2008. I happened to just price a flight and the cost was $306. Travelocity has a sale with prices from New York to Los Angeles starting at $285. Also, many people have told me they will be using JetBlue and landing in Long Beach and Burbank Airports.

    http://www.mrgadget.com.au/ gadget/ 2008/ mini-notes-bundled-with-broadband-plan…

Up ’til now, it’s only common for mobile phones to be offered by telcos bundled with specific plans to go along with them. As a result, prices are subsidized and you get your handset for lower its real price. According to a recent article from VIA Arena, the same trend might be the future of mini-notebooks.

Even Moms Love Mobile Data Cards

    http://gigaom.com/ 2008/ 08/ 19/ even-moms-love-mobile-data-cards/

OK, that is a bit over the top! Nielsen Mobile came out with a report that points out that there were 13 million mobile data cards in the U.S. at the end of June 2008. Not a big surprise, since wireless carriers in the U.S. are having a blockbuster year as far as mobile Internet revenues are concerned.
