Gamer. For most people that conjures up an image of a geeky teenage boy sitting in his room in his parents' house talking on a headset to other geek friends who have no lives. I am here to tell you: That is so 1990! Today gamers are teenagers, men and, yes, women. In fact, women who game are quickly becoming more mainstream.

Even though I am a guy, I am seriously considering checking out myLifetime, and their games for women site.  You remember Lifetime, right?  The same company as the Lifetime Network for Women on TV.

A press release last week from the Entertainment Software Association in the US is worth a look for some of the stats that it includes about PC and Internet gamers today: The average gamer is 35 years old40% are now womenOne in four are over 50 (after all, it's one way to spend your retirement!) In what comes as a piece of good news for Gaming industry, it was revealed that almost 40% of video game players were women. WomenGamers.com is reporting that, Forty percent of gamers are women according to a new survey released today by the video game industry’s trade group, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA).

40% of Gamers are Women! July 22nd, 2008 James It’s unbelievable actually, I mean what are they playing because I very rarely see females on Xbox Live. Maybe I am just playing the wrong games. I wonder what ESA constitute as a gamer… I’m sure a lot of teen girls have given the Wii a go (no pun intended).
