womens issues

Tag details

Women's issues is a collective term for concerns related to gender in society, particularly those related to equality and discrimination in the workplace, in media coverage, and in the legal system.

It also includes the societal contributions of women and the recognition of that contribution or the lack of it, the portrayal of women in art and pop culture as a reflection of social attitudes and mores, the relationship between gender and power, and issues related to those aspects of health and medicine specific to the female body.

Everything from political debates about abortion and birth control to the misogyny and pejoratives directed at the female characters in a mainstream video game may properly be included under the umbrella term "Women's issues" if they are being discussed in the context of the social-gender dynamic. In that sense, Women's Issues is a broader term than Feminism or Women's Studies, although there is considerable overlap.
