The infamous Ms. Manners once wrote to a frustrated young reader who was struggling with time management. She wrote, "Work when you are supposed to be working and play when you are supposed to be playing. Otherwise, you get trapped feeling guilty all the time for not doing what you're supposed to be doing."

The preponderance of people working online and from home in the last decade has just magnified the dilemma outlined by Ms. Manners in her quote. As more and more people begin to go online for work, the line between work and play is blurred even more, and these two activities that used to be juxtaposed so clearly are getting blended together more and more.

When the concept of working from home was first introduced to employers, they saw it as a body blow wrapped in a bouquet. Yes, it would be nice to not have to offer employees a workspace, gas allowance, and general overhead that comes with most in-house employees, but it also became increasingly hard for employers to keep tabs on what their employees where doing and how much work they were getting done when they were at Work Online at Home.
