A wrinkle is essentially a crease in the skin. Wrinkles commonly occur as a part of aging.

Some health experts in the raw food movement suggest that premature aging, and therefore wrinkles, are caused by the lack of enzymes in the body. They suggest that the much needed enzymes that keep our skin smooth (among other things) are used up when consuming cooked foods that become void of enzymes during the cooking process. The suggestion is that food when consumed in the raw state will already have the needed enzymes for digestion, so the body will not need to use any from it's finite store.

Temporary wrinkles may also occur after submerging our bodies into water for several minutes.

There are different types of wrinkles which include atrophic crinkling rhytids, permanent elastic creases, dynamic expression lines and gravitational folds.
