The X Factor is a television franchise that originated in the UK.  Now the X Factor is seen and produced in many countries. The X Factor is looking for vocal contestants that have that certain star quality know as "the X factor." The show conducts public auditions in hopes of finding an undiscovered talent. Thousands audition in hopes of making the cut. The X Factor judges mentor the contestants throughout the competition helping them with their songs. The first big star out of the original version of the series was singer Leona Lewis.

The X Factor is produced by Simon Cowell, known in America for his work on American Idol, and his company Syco TV. The X Factor has a grand prize for the winner: a 5 million dollar recording contract along with all the fame that comes with a win. The X Factor will help propel the aspiring artists who make the top 10 into the limelight, just as on American Idol from which many singers, such as Jennifer Hudson, have successfully launched a career without taking first place.

The X Factor along with Simon Cowell has as judges Antonio "L.A." Reid, Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger. The contestants will have their first audition on The X Factor in front of an audience of thousands. raising the stakes and increasing the pressure to impress not only the judges, but also a potential legion of fans.
