xquery

Tag details

XQuery is a functional programming language, similar to SQL, but optimized for querying stores of XML documents, and to a lesser extent, for application logic.

XQuery
was developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) along with the closely-related languages XSLT 2.0 and XPath 2.0.

XQuery
engines are popular projects within the open source community, including Saxon (also available in a commercial version) and eXist. Engines are also available from database vendors and specialized XML server companies.

As work continues to build the semantic web, languages like XQuery will continue to be important.
