Yoga is a Sanskrit word for union. This exercise style originated in India over 5000 years ago. However, during the past several years, the renewal of this ancient practice has been steadily gaining popularity throughout the world.
Yoga is a mind-body-spirit exercise that is practiced to restore balance and harmony to one's life. This is accomplished by performing a series of poses (asanas), movements, and deep-controlled breathing techniques (pranayamas). Sessions frequently end with meditation which leaves the participant with a sense of calmness and relaxation.
Practicing yoga on a regular basis has been found to produce a wide range of health benefits. Among these include lowered blood pressure, improved strength and flexibility, and reduced stress. It's numerous health-enhancing virtues are frequently extolled on the blogosphere.
There are many forms of yoga. One of the most well-known and widely practiced styles in the United States is hatha yoga. This technique combines slow-paced stretching with some basic breathing exercises. A few other popular forms are power yoga, known for it's more physically challenging workout and kundalini, a more spiritually oriented practice.
