zinfandel
Zinfandel is a variety of red grapes, the main component of very popular Red and White Zinfandel wines. Zinfandel is a red grape with clear juice. The color of the resulting wine depends on the winemaker and how long the juice is allowed to contact the skin, the seeds and the stems which cause the juice to acquire the red tint.
Zinfandel is a quintessentially American, mostly Californian wine. The variety is grown on over 50,000 acres in the United States and the wine standard, unlike most other prominent types of wine, has also been developed in the United States.
Zinfandel grapes have grown in popularity by the mid-19th century, just in time for the Californian Gold Rush of 1849 which made the Zinfandel wine extremely popular among the miners.
Zinfandel wine is a great tasting experience due to its large number of style variations. Most of the red table style wine is made from grapes picked at the balance between sugar and acid which yields wines with 13-14% alcohol. However, the grapes are known to ripen unevenly and so the time of harvest has a great effect on the particular flavor.
