    Reverse Music Searching and Pandora

    http://www.zachishere.com/ 2008/ 05/ 20/ reverse-music-searching-and-pandora/

Chris has been getting into Pandora lately which is a great thing. For those of you who are not familiar Pandora is a service that streams music based on a genre, similar artist, or similar song. It feeds off of what you like and and creates a personal music station from that, for free.

$100 genome sequencing within 5 years

    http://www.pantopicon.be/ blog/ 2008/ 05/ 20/ 100-genome-sequencing-within-5-yea…

$100.000-$60.000 today (in 4 weeks time), maybe $5.000 (in 24h) by the end of the year, possibly $100 or less by 2012. That is how much it will cost to sequence your full genome. Low price means high accessibility. Full genome sequencing will be the 21st century’s blood & urine sample.

A New Genome Wide Association Study Pinpoints More Human Skin Color Alleles

    http://anthropology.net/ 2008/ 05/ 19/ a-new-genome-wide-association-study-pinpo…

Ever since December, I’ve been reading a lot of research about the genetics of human skin color variation. To date, many genes have been identified in the skin pigmentation biochemical pathway. This suggests that the evolution of human skin color is multifaceted.

“Well, Get the Bread Out of the Oven and Let’s Eat!”

Less than a week into my genome and I can honestly say, I’m overwhelmed. While 23andMe is interesting, I found their site pretty limiting in terms of actual information. What they have is well put together, but it doesn’t change the fact that they stop short of telling you every scary thing lurking in your DNA.

An Ancient Protein Balances Gene Activity And Silences Foreign D... ScienceDaily Mon, 05/19/2008 - 09:15 Compared to humans, bacteria have a much tidier genome. The tiny microorganisms pack their genes closely together, and don't carry around a lot of extraneous DNA, so-called junk DNA that fills in the gaps between genes.

    Human Genome – Annunciation (1)

    http://thehumangenome.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 05/ 19/ human-genome-%e2%80%93-annunc…

ANNUNCIATION ‘The Human Genome is the ‘Holy Grail’ of biology.’ Washington Post ‘I would say the Human Genome Project is probably more significant than splitting the atom or going to the moon. That sounds really audacious, doesn’t it? But I think history, when we look back in a hundred years, will agree with that conclusion.

A Life Decoded: J. Craig Venter Adrenalin Addict

    http://www.carlford.net/ ?p=39

I was looking for a new subject for me to run a conference about and I thought I might find the answer in the work of J. Craig Venter. He has been involved in the human genome project, more often than not as an antagonist. Now he is looking at the opportunities that take us beyond the human genone project and he sees potential in the mapping of bacteria and viruses.

Werewolf Boy Seeks Help from Doctors

    http://healthandsurvival.com/ 2008/ 05/ 18/ werewolf-boy-seeks-help-from-doctors…

Pruthviraj Patil has suffered from hypertrichosis, a rare  genetic condition also known as Werewolf Syndrome, since birth. He is believed to be one of only 50 people in the world with the condition. Pruthviraj’s family have tried a range of treatments - including homeopathy, traditional Indian Ayurvedic remedies and more recently laser surgery – but none has proved successful.
