Atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) - Mauna Loa or Keeling curve

    http://maps.grida.no/ go/ graphic/ atmospheric-concentrations-of-carbon-dioxide-…

Atmospheric concentration of CO2 is steadily rising, and oceans directly assimilate CO2. As ocean concentration of CO2 increases, the oceans automatically become more acidic. This, in turn, may have severe impacts on coral reefs and other biocalcifying organisms.

Jamais Cascio and a carbon-spewing cheeseburger.Ever wonder what the carbon footprint of a cheeseburger is? According to Jamais Cascio, Research Affiliate with The Institute for the Future, it’s 4-6 kg of CO2 equivalent per burger — or 150 million tonnes per year in the United States, given that we eat an average of 100 cheeseburgers per person per year.

    Back to the Garden

    http://www.cleantechblog.com/ 2008/ 09/ back-to-garden.html

(By John Addison 9/4/08) The warm summer breeze carried the aromas of ripe berries, almonds, fresh honey, heirloom tomatoes, and exotic mushrooms. I was like the cartoon character lifted by mouthwatering fragrances and carried to the source in a hungry trance.

    http://ecolocalizer.com/ 2008/ 09/ 05/ epas-latest-public-enemy-old-lawn-mowers/…

Gas-powered lawn mowers are terrible polluters, but they’ll have to clean up their act in the next few years. So say new regulations announced this week by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Under the EPA’s new standards, small spark-ignition engines such as those used in lawn mowers will have to reduce their hydrocarbon emissions by 35 percent starting in 2011.

What are your top tips for helping RedMonk/GreenMonk become carbon neutral?

Photo Credit azrainman My colleague in RedMonk, Stephen O’Grady wrote a great post a few weeks back on his blog titled RedMonk: We’re Not Perfect, But We Try. The post was about how we realised in RedMonk that there was a flaw in the way we licence our content as Open Source, something we had criticised other companies for.

    Cars.com's Carbon-Offset Update

    http://blogs.cars.com/ kickingtires/ 2008/ 09/ carscoms-carbon.html

Our carbon-emitter award for this slate of vehicles goes, not surprisingly, to the Lexus LX 570, but our most notable addition to the carbon-offset update is diesel vehicles, which produce slightly more CO2 per gallon than regular gasoline (about 2 pounds more). Check out the results below.
