Atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) - Mauna Loa or Keeling curve

    http://maps.grida.no/ go/ graphic/ atmospheric-concentrations-of-carbon-dioxide-…

Atmospheric concentration of CO2 is steadily rising, and oceans directly assimilate CO2. As ocean concentration of CO2 increases, the oceans automatically become more acidic. This, in turn, may have severe impacts on coral reefs and other biocalcifying organisms.

Daily Links: Eleven Dollars of Fun Edition

    http://www.getrichslowly.org/ blog/ 2008/ 09/ 05/ daily-links-eleven-dollars-of-…

I had a great time last night, and it only cost me eleven bucks. A friend asked if I wanted to join him to watch the Portland Timbers, our local minor-league soccer team. “Sure,” I said, though I wasn’t expecting much. We sat with the rowdy die-hards behind one goal, and I had a great time soaking up the enthusiasm and listening to their raunchy cheers and songs.

Political and military effects of climate change

    http://polizeros.com/ 2008/ 09/ 05/ political-and-military-effects-of-climate-ch…

A US military analyst warns of climate wars, famines, floods of refugees, as areas near the Equator suffer permanent serious drought. The possibility of major water wars between India and Pakistan is quite real, as water from the Himalayas starts in areas controlled by India then flows through Pakistan.

    Reporter's Notes: Air Conditioning Reinvented

    http://www.kqed.org/ quest/ blog/ 2008/ 09/ 05/ reporters-notes-air-conditioning…

A confession: When I first got the assignment to do a story about air conditioner efficiency, I didn’t exactly leap from my seat in excitement. (Which is why extra kudos go to those who’ve made it as far as this web page!) But, really, I should have known better.

    Is it hot in here?

    http://ycorpblog.com/ 2008/ 09/ 05/ is-it-hot-in-here/

Here in California, we know all too well that summer days can put a strain on our electricity grid. This is especially true on the hottest weekday afternoons, when air conditioners are working their hardest and office buildings are full of employees.

Oil politics backfire on the US

    http://blog.greens.org.nz/ 2008/ 09/ 06/ oil-politics-backfire-on-the-us/

Open Democracy’s Paul Rogers notes that as China looks to secure oil for it’s increasing consumption it is becoming a strategic power in the Middle East in exactly the way the US would not have intended or wanted. Three transnational oil companies - Shell, BP and Exxon Mobil - were all expected to complete deals by the end of June 2008, but none has yet been finalised.
