Now, I’m a big Lou Piniella fan. He’s the last great manager the Reds have had, and he cleaned up the pile of crap Dusty Baker deposited in Chicago more quickly than I ever could have imagined. But the symbolism of Piniella getting lost are very delicious. As I write, the Cubs are down 9-0 to the Reds.

ESPN named the Arizona Cardinals fans worst in the NFL. Most sports teams in Arizona suffer from a lack of attendance, but at least the Cardinals have a solution. If you assume every co-ed Matt Leinart knocks up attends the games in her pink #7 jersey, he should have the stadium filled within a couple of years.

Well, I caught the tail end of the speech by McCain. All that excitement they had last night? Gone. Palin gave a pretty good speech, albeit full of lies, but McCain’s was just flat-out bad. The good news? Football! I can’t believe it but football season is here, and while I missed the Giants-Redskins game I am fired up to spend Sundays watching men clash violently with one another again.

When I was a kid and the Cubs had a day off, my family would always joke, "Hey, the Cubs didn’t lose today!". Of course, back then in the mid 70’s, the Cubs had crap teams and the joke fit. But now in late 2008, when the Cubs are 4 1/2 up on their contender, the joke kinda loses its meaning.
