    http://www.realtime-itcompliance.com/ privacy_and_compliance/ 2008/ 09/ how_does…

So, do you know how your business may be using data mining for customer and consumer profiling? Have you talked with your marketing folks about it? Do you know how the stores you make your purchases from use your information to do customer profiling and other types of data mining? Have you asked them?

    http://www.rittmanmead.com/ 2008/ 09/ 05/ oracle-11g-partitioning/

Last time I mentioned that I have been helping Mark with some demonstrations of the Data Warehouse features of modern (notably 11g) Oracle databases. Having a few minutes spare I decided to take a look at partitioning.

"Google Chrome seems to be shining for SOA" by David Linthicum: Just to be clear. Chrome is not a savior for SOA/WOA. Its value is that it considers the use of Web delivered applications, and Web-delivered services, within the architecture of the browser. It's not an afterthought.

JMS, transactions and Hibernate's lazy initialization exceptions

    http://forum.springframework.org/ showthread.php?t=59834&goto=newpost

I have a webapp that uses annotation driven transactions. It's a configuration I've used with a number of small projects and seems to work fine when everything is driven from the presentation tier. My latest project is also using JMS and one of my business objects receives messages from a queue and sometimes working with the persistence layer results in lazy initialization errors.

    Employment Report Update

    http://oldprof.typepad.com/ a_dash_of_insight/ 2008/ 09/ employment-report-updat…

Today's employment situation report showed a month-over-month loss of 84,000 jobs and a jump in the unemployment rate to 6.1%.  Prior months were revised lower (larger job losses) so the report is even weaker than it seems on the surface.
