This last day of TRIPLE-I, the conference consisting of three events (I-SEMANTICS,I-KNOW, I-MEDIA) was probably my favourite one, even though I am of course a bit biased: It was Linked Data day, with a keynote by Tom Heath which I will cover in more detail on Monday, but we need to be heading home now.

Martin Malmsten and linked library data

    http://inkdroid.org/ journal/ 2008/ 09/ 02/ martin-malmsten-and-linked-library-d…

I’m currently listening to Richard Wallis’ interview w/ Martin Malmsten of the Royal Library of Sweden. It’s a really fascinating view inside a library, and the mind of a developer that are publishing bibliographic resources as linked data.

Questions and Answers: The Desktop and The Web

Kingsley Idehen made an interesting blog post recently in a question and answer format (see his blog post: “The future of the desktop“), so i’ve decided to provide my own answers: Q: Is the desktop of the future going to just be a web-hosted version of the same old-fashioned desktop metaphors we have today?

Various bits of news (late August 2008)

Greenbelt 2008 Greenbelt festival 2008 was really fantastically good! Michael Franti & Spearhead are an awesome band, as are Aradhna. Plus my church (Foundation Bristol) did a fantastic service where they told the story about the Tower of Babel using some funky music and interesting visuals (it was quite “New Media” style and “Emerging“) (”To Confuse is to Liberate!”).

The Gap between the Web 2.0 and Semantic Web Community (tentative post)

Two days ago in upper Austria, the BarCamp Traunsee, subtitled “Social Media Review Camp”, took place, which I had co-organized and which was co-sponsored by our own lil’ Semantic Web Company. Andreas Blumauer (also SWC) joined me on the first day, hosting a session about and giving an introduction to Linked Data.

I gave a lecture earlier this year at the Second Bloomsbury Meeting on e-Publishing and e-Publications. The meeting was called “The Virtual Scholar”, and in the organisers’ words: This year’s conference will concentrate on the scholars themselves, what they want as authors and readers, what they

The Future of the Desktop. Kinda.

    http://www.jasonkolb.com/ weblog/ 2008/ 08/ the-future-of-t.html

Nova Spivack from Twine wrote an interesting post over at Read/WriteWeb about the future of the desktop which I'd like to comment on. It really ties in nicely with what I've been thinking about recently around user interfaces, especially since any hardware innovations will necessarily involve an ACTUAL operating system.
